Study in the USA And UK University

The USA is the number one destination for international students and it’s not hard to see why. Find out what it’s like to study in the ‘land of opportunity’

Spanning six time zones the USA is regarded as one of the finest education providers in the world and sees increasing numbers of postgraduate students flock to its universities each year.

Studying in the USA you’ll have the pick of thousands of institutions and degree programmes, as well as the opportunity to broaden your cultural horizons by experiencing American campus life. You can also give your CV a boost by getting involved in the huge variety of clubs and organisations on offer, including sports.

Popular student cities include Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, New York City and San Francisco but if you’re sights are set on a less obvious destination you have 50 states to choose from.

American universities

The country has one of the largest education systems in the world with more than 4,500 institutions. While English is the main language in the USA, you’ll have to get used to the differing academic terminology. Universities are generally known as colleges, of which there are two main types:

  • Public colleges – large, state-funded institutions that have lower tuition fees but more students. International students will pay higher fees.
  • Private colleges – smaller universities funded by private donations, tuition fees and grants. The opposite of public colleges, they have higher fees but fewer students. Overseas students pay the same fees as state residents.

Why a British Education?

According to the International School Consultancy (ISC Research), there are more than four and a half million pupils studying at more than 8,000 English medium international schools around the world. Of those schools, more than 3,700 are British schools – schools with a British national orientation, and/or using elements of the UK national curriculum.

British education has a strong reputation worldwide, with parents choosing British schools for the broad, balanced curriculum and teaching that equips pupils with the skills and qualifications to enter, or re-enter, the UK education system at school, college, or university level. Quality British Schools Overseas provide opportunities for a wide range of extra-curricular opportunities, strong welfare support, and promote an understanding of modern British society.

The Patron’s Accreditation and Compliance is a rigorous quality assurance scheme for British schools overseas that supports schools on their development journey and actively supports whole school improvement ensuring the best possible educational environments for children and young people worldwide. By 2022, all COBIS member schools will have been through this scheme and from 2017, to become a COBIS school, you must meet the high standards of The Patron’s Accreditation and Compliance process.

The Department for Education (DfE) also has voluntary scheme for the inspection of British Schools Overseas (BSO), whereby schools are inspected against a common set of standards that BSO can choose to adopt. Inspectorates approved by the DfE and monitored by the English schools’ inspectorate Ofsted can inspect BSOs. They produce inspection reports which are made available to parents through the DfE’s website.

This provides parents with information about the quality of provision within the inspected school, and its compatibility with independent schools in the UK. Schools who opt to undergo the BSO process are welcomed by COBIS as Accredited Members.

The inspection covers the quality of the curriculum; the quality of teaching and learning; the spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of pupils; their welfare, health and safety; the suitability of the proprietor and staff; the school’s premises and accommodation (including boarding); and the school’s complaints procedures.

An essential part of the inspection is considering the extent to which the British character of the school is evident in its ethos, curriculum, teaching, care for pupils and pupils’ achievements.

Undergraduate and postgraduate open days:

The undergraduate and postgraduate open days are an opportunity for the students to discover more about our full-time and part-time courses, college life and how the university can assist them in getting the profession they want.

They can speak to students and staff about what studying at the university includes, explore the facilities and find the scope of courses and study options offered.
The well-being team offers confidential support to all the students who are physically disabled, have mental issues or have a learning disability.

The college empowers any student or prospective student with a disability or long-term ailment to contact the administration at the earliest to guarantee suitable help.
When the students join the university, they get admission to comprehensive careers information, advice and guidance from the careers service, from arranging out a career plan or CV-composing to mock interviews. The employment service encourages an enormous scope of part-time chances to students.

The students are consequently enlisted with the service on enrolment to look for paid occupations both on campus and outside, and get twice weekly updates for part-time openings available. Whether on campus or learning remotely, students can get a wide range of support extending through student services, accommodation and immigration advice, health and well-being services, financing, coaching and disability and mental health support.

The academic workshops, organising peer mentoring and general support are arranged by the student engagement team which help keep students on track. Study in the UK : For International Students

Step by step: How to get into a UK university as an international student
The United Kingdom is home to some of the world’s best universities, nestled in beautiful historic towns and bustling vibrant cities.
So if you have your heart set on heading there to get your degree, it’s no surprise why. But where do you start?
First off, you need to know this: UCAS (the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service) is your ticket to getting into a UK-based institution.
And different to the US system where you’re required to make university-specific applications, in the UK you’d need to write one personal statement, apply to a maximum of five universities and conduct it all through one online portal.
Sounds relatively simple, right? Well, yes and no… Luckily it should be pretty easy to get a handle on, but when you are just starting out it can be rather tricky to know how to navigate the application process, visas, and all the other steps and requirements you need to go through and meet in order to begin your UK adventure.

If you are from a country within the European Union you are currently treated the same as a British applicant so most of these steps are not necessary. However, the future of EU international students in the UK is still uncertain following Brexit and you may have to complete the steps below for the 2019-2020 university admissions year

The University of West London (UWL) is a public university in the United Kingdom which has campuses in Ealing and Brentford in Greater London, as well as in Reading, Berkshire. The university has roots back to 1860, when the Lady Byron School was founded, which later became Ealing College of Higher Education. In 1992, it became a university and 18 years later it was renamed the University of West London.[4]

West London comprises eight schools. These are Claude Littner Business School, the London Geller College of Hospitality and Tourism, the School of Computing and Engineering, London College of Music, the College of Nursing, midwifery and Healthcare, the School of Law and Criminology, the School of Human and Social Sciences, and the London School of Film, Media and Design.

West London is ranked in the top 60 universities in the UK by The Guardian University Guide 2020 and The Times/Sunday Times Good University Guide 2020.

Chelsea Independent College

Chelsea Independent College is a leading sixth form college in the heart of London.
